Life is essentially connected with growth. The phenomenon of growth can be studied scientifically from two different points of view:
a) Study of growth on the cellular or organismic level: Here, the cellular (biochemical and regulatory) processes that allow the highly controlled increase in length and volume, division and replication are of interest. These processes can be studied without looking at the population as a whole. b) Study of growth on the population level: Here the increase of the number of individuals or the population size and its mathematical description and modeling are of interest. Strictly speaking, this is the study of propagation (German: Vermehrung), but nevertheless the term growth is commonly used. This can be studied and modeled without knowing about the cellular processes.
One of the most basic experimental approaches in microbiology is the study of growth from viewpoint (b). Growth (propagation) of bacteria can be quite fast and usually requires small culture volumes (flasks). This is ideal to measure growth and apply the mathematical formulas. Bacterial growth will be achieved at different phases like Lag, Log, Staionary and Death phase. This kit will be provided with the Bacterial culture and LB broth for the anlaysis of Growth Curve.
